Smythe Volvo - My Wife's $500 Volvo Test Drive

Not resolved

My wife went to Smythe Volvo in Summit NJ and was offered a test drive of a S60 sedan; the salesman gave her the keys on the car lot and did not give her any further instructions.

In order to leave the lot, she backed up the car and scraped the bumper of the car behind her.

Smythe Volvo demanded $500 to fix the damage; my insurance company said we were not liable because it happened on Smythe's lot.

After threatening to take us to collection, we sent them a check for $500, but I will never go back there again and am warning my friends about this dealership.

Reason of review: Poor customer service.

Monetary Loss: $500.

Preferred solution: Let the company propose a solution.

I liked: Nice showroom.

I didn't like: I was threatened to be taken to collection.

So what makes you think they are responsable for your wife that cant drive?

Point taken

It is usual for the salesman to offer to ride with a potential customer, especially if she had never driven this car.

The salesman also neglected to tell her that the backup camera on this car was not working.

If the salesman had been in the car to direct her out of a very crowded lot this would not have happened.

I think both Smythe Volvo and my wife share blame, but Smythe accepted no responsibility.
